GCHSCHL Season Opener
It was a hard fought battle for the Varsity Bobcats in their GCHSCHL season opener against the Westerville Warcats resulting in a tough loss. The Bobcats came out hard in full force against the Warcats for a scoreless first period. The first goal of the game was scored by Westerville and Athens answered a short 36 seconds later with a hard shot from the blueline by defenseman Kyle Dean assisted by Kevin Deal. The game remained tied until late into the third period when Westerville scored again to win the game. Athens out shot Westerville 28 to 13 but in the end, it wasn't enough.
Athens will host Lakewood this Friday for a late night game beginning at 10:15 pm and then will take to the road for their first away games of the season on Sunday against Dayton.
