SafeSport Program (Athens Youth Hockey Association | Athens Ohio | Bird Arena)

PrintSafeSport Program
SafeSport_AYHA.JPGThe safety of the AYHA’s hockey players is always the first concern of the Association.  As part of the AYHA’s affiliation with USA Hockey, the Association actively endorses and participates in the USA Hockey SafeSport Program, which is dedicated to off-ice safety.  SafeSport is a system to protect our hockey players from abuse or misconduct, which may include physical abuse, sexual abuse, hazing, and other forms of harassment.  The program also outlines codes of conduct for coaches, officials, parents, players, spectators, and administrators.

The USA Hockey SafeSport program provides at no cost online training and education to help prevent abuse from occurring in hockey.  In order to participate as an on-ice coach or official, or as an off-ice volunteer, USA Hockey and the AYHA require that the core SafeSport training be completed and maintained with yearly refresher courses.  The success of SafeSport relies not only on the program policies established by USA Hockey, but also on the active training and participation of parents, coaches, officials, and administrators.

Become SafeSport Trained
First, register with USA Hockey.  Registration for volunteers is completely free, and it covers off-ice activities only.  To participate on the ice or on the bench, you will need to register and pay the fee as a Player / Coach: USA Hockey Member Registration

Next, complete the online SafeSport training modules.  The training is complete free, but you will need your USA Hockey registration number and a unique email address (not shared with another parent or player).  https://www.usahockey.com/safesporttraining

Finally, send your USA Hockey registration number and a copy of your SafeSport training certificates to the AYHA Registrar, Amanda McCumber at [email protected].
