AYHA Coaches

AYHA coaches are men and women of all ages, from college students to parents of current players to parents whose kids aged out of youth hockey a decade or more ago.  Most of them played through high school.  Many played though college, or in the juniors system, and many still play.  Some are fairly new to coaching; others have decades of coaching experience at all levels, right through college hockey.  They have in common a commitment to the great game of hockey, and to the kids who want to play.

AYHA coaches are trained and certified by USA Hockey; AYHA reimburses its coaches for their training fees.  Parent coaches receive no other compensation and are purely volunteers; many non-parent coaches are paid, although some of them are also volunteers.

AYHA also encourages current players to be student coaches, helping on the ice with younger age divisions and mentored by the Director of Hockey.

Applications for coaching positions are reviewed by AYHA's Director of Hockey, Phil Oberlin ([email protected]), who makes recommendations to the AYHA Board for coaches at each age division.  Head coaches are in place by the time practice starts in October, but Assistants and On-Ice Helpers can often start later.
