Mite, 2009-2010 (Athens Youth Hockey Association | Athens Ohio | Bird Arena)

The 2010 In-House Mite Tournament has been set.  The Athens Mites will be hosting teams from Columbus, Dayton and Bowling Green in a four team tournament to be held March 13th and 14th.

The Athens Mites traveled to Cincinnati on Saturday, February 20th for a double header against the Indian Hills Winter Club Select team.

This past Sunday saw a complete Mite roster that included the newcomers and those that split time with the squirts, for the first time this season.  The visiting Penguins from Easton came to “The Bird” for a pair of exciting games.

The Athens Mites returned to action this past Sunday after a very long layoff from competition as they traveled to Charleston to face the West Virginia Wild for a double header. The Mites were hungry for a little revenge after dropping two games to the Wild earlier in the season. Both games were very exciting coming down to the final seconds in each to determine the winner. It took the Mites a few minutes to knock the rust off as they found themselves in a one goal hole in the first period. “Move over Rick Nash.” “Look out Steve Mason.” “Step aside R.J. Umberger.” The Athens Mites were in town and taking over Nationwide Arena on January 2nd. The mites received the unique opportunity to showcase their skills during the first intermission of the Colorado Avalanche vs. Columbus Blue Jacket game. While the game only lasted only about three minutes or so, the game was just as exciting and made memories that will last a lifetime.
