Requirements & Roles

The Team Manager position takes care of many off-ice needs of each youth hockey team, particularly on game days. Those individuals interested in volunteering as Team Manager must make every effort to be at all home and away games throughout the season. In addition to maintaining communication with all the family members of youth hockey players through the team communication app, the following are typical duties of a Team Manager.

Roster Duties

  • With the Head Coach, coordinate the submission of the regular season roster and player numbers to the AYHA Registrar for approval by USA Hockey.

  • Coordinate the submission of non-league game and/or tournament weekend rosters to the AYHA Registrar for approval by USA Hockey.

  • Note: roster selection for non-league games and/or tournaments is a duty of the Head Coach and not the Team Manager.

Scheduling Duties

  • Schedule home and away league games at the start of the season with managers of other teams (the AYHA Rink Scheduler will provide available home ice slots).

  • With prior approval of the Head Coach, schedule home and away non-league games and tournament weekends.

  • Notify the AYHA Rink Scheduler and Referee Scheduler all home league game ice slots. Request prior approval to use ice slots for non-league games.

  • Enter all home and away game dates and rosters correctly in GameSheet.

Gameday Duties

  • For BTHL home games, verify rosters in GameSheet for both teams and secure signatures from head coaches and referees.

  • For BTHL home games, enter all goals and penalties in GameSheet from the scorebox.

  • For non-league games, provide team roster for either use in GameSheet or paper scoresheets.

  • For all home and away games, identify a parent who can serve in the penalty box and a parent who can run the score clock.

Please note that routine communication (schedule questions at the beginning of the season, roster submissions, etc.) with the BTHL Division Director for each age division shall be only with the prior consent of the Head Coach, and the AYHA BTHL Representative shall be copied on all communications. All other direct communications with the BTHL are prohibited and must go through the AYHA BTHL Representative first.

How to Volunteer

Prior to the start of the regular season (preferably just before the BTHL seeding tournament, but no later than after the seeding tournament and before regular season practices begin), the Head Coach of each team will solicit volunteers for the Team Manager position on the team communication app. Volunteers need only be an AYHA Member in good standing to volunteer. In the event more than one person volunteers for the Team Manager position, the Head Coach shall organize a vote amongst the AYHA Members (each parent and/or responsible adult of a youth player may vote). The volunteer with a simple majority of votes will be selected as Team Manager for the season.

Registration Requirements

The following registrations, screening, and training are required prior to the start of the season to serve as Team Manager. Please note that both USA Hockey registration and SafeSport training require yearly updates, while background screening is good for two years.
