Athens vs Newark - November 8, 2009

The Mites are back for 2009-2010 and starting right where they left off from last year. On November 8, 2009, the Mites traveled to Newark to take on Newark #1 and Newark #2. The first game against Newark was a high scoring affair with Athens coming out on top 13-2. Hat tricks were achieved by Eli Kennedy (5 goals), Jackson Kohn (3 goals) and Nicholas Barga (3 goals). This was the first hat trick for Jackson and Nicholas. Also finding the net were Finn Mitchell and Henry Welsh. Providing the stout defense was AJ Sammons in goal and Finn Mitchell and Storm Walburn on defense.
The second game against Newark #2 was a defensive struggle. Both teams featured strong goaltending with Wyatt Wood protecting the net for Athens. However, Athens prevailed by a score of 4-3, thanks to late goal by Nicholas Barga. For the game Storm Walburn scored 1 goals and Nicholas Barga scored his second hat trick of the day. Even though Dominic Norris did not find the net in either game, his presence was felt with his hard skating and pinpoint passing with resulted directly in three goals for the day. All in all, it was a great team effort and I pity our future opponents.
To show the dominance of the Athens Mites, Athens had 73 shots on goal for the day and Newark 1 and 2 had 19.
