Squirts Batttle, but drop two in Columbus
The Athens Squirts tangled with the CCYHA Blues on Saturday, November 11th.  The Cats played extremely hard but came up short in both games, including a heart-breaker in the second game.

In the first game of the day, the Cats witnessed first hand how proper positioning and crisp passes can be very effective.  The Blues jumped on the Cats early by putting one by the defense and first time Goalie Caleb Workman within the first couple minutes.  However, Ethan Zatta continued his scoring streak and knotted the game with an unassisted goal just half-way through the opening period.  Unfortunatley, that would be short lived tie.  The Blues came back and scored quickly and clamped down their defense and kicked their offense into gear.  Workman tallied a total of 17 saves, but it was not enough as the Athens Squirts fell 1-7.

Motivated by the loss (or maybe a new face on the bench helping with defensive shifts ;-)), the Cats came out as a different team in game 2.  Finn Mitchell got things going for the Cats in the first with an unassisted laser.  Jaden Laughlin was between the pipes this game and held the Blues scoreless in the first stopping 4 of his 11 total saves.

The Cats kept the pressure on in the second period.  After a Blues goal leveled the score, Moss Loebker fired a shot from just below the blue line that popped the back of the net before the Blues goalie knew what happened and the inspired Cats took a 2-1 lead into the third.

But the experience of the Blues was too much for the Cats to overcome.  Two goals within the final minute put an end to the upset and the Cats lost 2-3.

The Cats will have a week off of games and will be gearing up for the CCYHA Thanksgiving Classic next week in Columbus.

See you all at the Rink!
