Peewees Win Buckeye Travel Hockey League Tournament
Athens Hockey PeeWee Bobcats Update by Jeff Westenbarger

The Bobcats WON the Championship of the Buckeye League, spanking rival Ft Wayne, Indiana 6-2 in the final.

Logan Ries led the attack with a hat trick, while Brendan Sano netted 2, and Chase Sammons 1. The Bobcats advanced to the Championship by beating Newark in the semifinal. After falling behind 2-0, the 'cats rallied to win 3-2 with Logan Ries, Chase Sammons, and Brendan Sano all tallying a goal.

The Bobcat defensive effort came up big when needed, stymieing Newark's offense for the better part of two periods in the semifinal. Led by goalie Shen Cook, the Bobcats also shut down Fort Wayne's furious comeback attempt in the championship game, which led to some bad blood in front of the net. Our boys never backed down and soon put the game out of reach.

The Bobcats put on quite a display of Hockey, maybe their best this season. They were also very gracious in winning and represented Athens well with good sportsmanship. Way to go guys!

We have one more invitational tournament in Mentor, OH in March. There may be 8 or more teams involved, so this one should provide an excellent challenge for our Champs. Updates will follow that tourney.
