SQUIRTS GET READY FOR TOURNAMENT PLAY
The last time I reported in the Squirts were 10-3-1. Since then the Squirts played the tougher part of their schedule, with games against the Newark Generals Major team, CCYHA Minor A team, several CAHA Minor and Major house teams and the CAHA Select B team. In those 12 games the Squirts went 5-6-1. Now the regular season is pretty much over, the Squirts have two big tournaments remaining. February 25-27 the Squirts will be playing in the McCarthy Cup hosted by the Newark Generals. Later on March 11-13 the Squirts will travel to Mentor, Ohio to play in the Ice of March tournament. In both of these tournaments, the Squirts will face much tougher competition and organizations send their Select or Travel teams. Based on the last few weekends, our Squirts are ready to take on anyone.

During the season, the Squirts were lead by Chase Sammons with 43 goals and 12 assists. Chase wasn't the only offensive threat the Squirts had, Nicholas Barga added 17 goals and 9 assists, Finn Mitchell added 14 goals and 5 assists, Evan Adams added 12 goals and 3 assists, Anthony Koping added 9 goals and 2 assists, Max Cook added 9 goals and 4 assists, Jackson Kohn added 7 goals and 10 assists, Teagan Ries added 5 goals and 8 assists, Ethan Zatta added 4 goals and 3 assists, Gwyneth Philips added 3 goals and 5 assists, Henry Welsh added 4 assists, Connor Pepper added 3 assists, Dominic Norris added 2 goals and 1 assist, Jaden Patterson added 1 goal and 2 assists, Kade Lightner added 1 goal and 2 assists, and Caleb Workman added 1 assist.

When looking at how much offensive support Finn and Evan provided, you have to remember both of them spend most of their time playing defense. You look at Anthony Koping and Teagan Ries, and half of the games they are playing goalie. Then you look at Gwyneth Philips, she has only played 15 games for the Squirts after she completed her season with the CAHA Blue Jackets AA Major team. Halfway through the season, the team welcomed Connor Pepper to the team. Connor came through the Learn Hockey program. If the name Pepper sounds familiar, there have been several Peppers preceding Connor in the AHYA program. Also, many times you will see Peppers officiating youth or high school hockey games. Connor is keeping up the family tradition.

For the season, the Squirts have out scored their opponents 127 goalsto 66 goals. Teagan and Anthony have a Save Percentage of 82%. This can be attributed to excellent goalkeeping and tough defense.

I think all of this bodes well for the Squirts in the upcoming tournaments. See you there.
