Athens Mites End Season in House Tournament
Written by Valerie Young- The AYHA Bobcat Mites peaked at the right time this season, defeating
both the West Virginia Wild and the Northern Kentucky Norse to battle
the Newark Generals in the Tournament Championship.
Newark, clearly the team-to-beat all weekend, defeated the Bobcats 5 - 1 to take home the first-place award. Newark's head coach is AYHA alumnus Chad Bortle. The Wild and the Norse played exciting, end-to-end hockey in the consolation game, finishing with a diving goal by the Norse in the last shift to tie it up 5-to-5. With the rules stipulating no overtime or shootout for the consolation game, the Norse edged out the Wild for third-place based on total tournament points.
