Private Hockey Lessons
Submitted By Valerie Young on Wednesday, September 18, 2013
Private hockey lesson times at Bird Arena are Monday / Wednesday 4:00 - 5:00 pm and Tuesday / Thursday 4:30 - 5:00 pm.  You must contact Jon Sheridan ([email protected]) in advance to arrange for an instructor. Instructor time and ice time are each purchased in the Pro Shop. Lessons can be for individuals or small groups.

Jon Sheridan ([email protected]) is AYHA's Coaching Education Coordinator, the Head Coach of the Ohio Bobcats AYHA D1 ice hockey team, and the man to talk to about private lessons, whether you want to be an instructor or a student.  Many instructors are players or coaches for the Ohio University D1 or D2 hockey teams. Jon will discuss your player's needs with you, and evaluate your player if needed. He will select a coach who is a good match for your player's skill level. Instruction can focus on any hockey skill, and position-specific instruction (including goalie) is available.

Lessons can be conducted 1-on-1, or with small groups of players. Often, small groups work better, because the players can work harder in short bursts, and a little friendly competition can push them all to do their personal best. Small group lessons are also less expensive per student.

Instructor time typically costs $7.50 for 15 minutes; purchase instructor tickets in the Pro Shop and then give the ticket(s) to the instructor at lesson time.  Instructors do not handle cash.  A "freestyle punch card" for ice time costs $60 for 30 15-minute ice slots, or $2.00 per 15-minute ice slot.  Purchase the punch card in the Pro Shop.  To purchase ice time, show the punch card, and the Pro Shop staff person will punch it for each 15-minute ice slot you request.  Without a punch card, ice time costs $7.50 per 15-minute ice slot.  Punch cards CAN be shared.
